Girls

Yesterday I had a chat with my room mate and my neighbour. I seriously enjoyed myself thoroughly, not only because we had a chat, but also because I made an observation.

As I sat on my bed, watching the two of them chattering away about their tourism paper today, I realised that chatting is some form of stress relief. Despite the fact that I couldn't join in (I had no exams), I enjoyed watching them, with their high pitch squeals and excited voices. Girls can talk about orbitraries and make it sound like a really thrilling roller coaster ride. The most boring topic can emerge yet I would always want to listen in to girl chat, and wonder what it is about. I guess it is the pitch, the enthusiam in their voices (Listen to me talk like as if I am not a girl) that makes it so desirable.

Of course I got my turn at talking. It was amazing how for a moment, I can be dog tired, and the next, I am so vibrant and full of energy! The wonders of talking! Its like some healing session where all the weariness had drained from my body and replaced with gatorade! Wow, I wish I could do that more often. Speaking to girls can be so much fun. In comparison, I realise guys are not really fun to talk to. I have no idea why they are usually "men of few words", but then again, I would be really turned off by a guy who doesn't close his mouth. So I guess in order to keep my guy pals, I have to leave all my chatting to my girlfriends!

Thanks Ying Ying and Winnie! for making my day!

People

Today, I had a really bad experience with someone, and that sets me thinking. I was wondering, what made her behave the way she did? Is she abnormal? Or am I being too reactive to things?

First of all, when someone says, "A normal person would not do that!" What is the definition of a normal person? I guess in Singapore, what is normally termed as a normal person is someone who behaves like how most Singaporeans behave. However, there are actually people who, under the normal circumstances, would not behave like how a rational, prudent man would (Learnt this from M144 - Principle of Law). In this case, are they abnormal? I would say yes. I feel that this is a problem with your character.

Let me cite an example. If you are eating with your friends, and they are done eating and are waiting for you. You are only halfway through. Would you speed up the rate of chewing in your mouth or would you just take your own sweet time, tasting every single detail of your fishball noodles? To me, this is bad behavior. You are holding up other people's time and is being real inconsiderate. In this instant, you are being abnormal, because a normal person, would have felt embarassed and start to eat faster.

Yes, you should be yourself, your own unique self. However, as much as I feel that being yourself is important, you need to learn to adapt to the society. In fact, I used to say,"I am like that, if you want to change me, then I would not be me anymore! All I am being is myself!" Sounds logical? Well, it still does to me. Fortunately for me, I now know that there are two sides to a coin. When you flip a coin, it may not necessarily land on heads all the time, or tails for that matter. Even the most bias coin would land the opposite side sometimes. What I am saying is, no doubt you should be yourself, and not follow other people's trends, but you should also understand that you are not perfect. You should understand that you too, have faults. These faults may be simple things like bad habits, to big issues like a problem with your character.

Now, you may not realise it yourself, but people around you can see these all too clearly. Some people may be kind and tell you about it, and some people will just keep quiet and dislike you. You have to be open to suggestions. If someone points out your mistake to you, and you try to rectify it, most of the time, people will appreciate your efforts. However, if you try to deny that you have this problem, or you try to avoid it, then after some time, people will just think that you are a stubborn prick. Of course, you don't have to go and change your habits just because any old Tom, Dick or Harry told you to. You have to rationalise as to whether or not this person seriously meant what he or she said.

Changing your bad habits not changing yourself. You are still you. All you are changing is your bad habits, a skin. The bad skin will shed and in its place, is one that is superior to the previous. In the same way, your uniqueness does not make you abnormal. Your bad character does.

Blogs

Actually when I think of it, blogs are not such a good idea after all. It can never take the place of a diary. I mean, diary is something like your inner thoughts, and you wouldn't want anyone to read you inner thoughts right? Unless of course, you think there are issues that you can address so that you can change the world or something. Other than that, things are pretty superficial in blogs, or so I think.

Can you imagine reading a blog that goes like,"Today I saw him again! He was looking at me too, and I think he likes me..." or "I really hate that XXX. She thinks she is so cool and all, but she doesn't even know the entire office hates her!" or "I am so depressed. Everything is going wrong. There is nothing worth living for. I am going to end my life." I mean, all these things are way too personal. What if that guy you were writing about got to read it and knows that you are talking about him? Or what if XXX saw that blog? You are probably going to get the entire office in trouble. And when you read the suicide note? I think I would freak out if I read something like that.

So what are the issues that you can address that can change the world? Well, sounds silly right? Don't be surprised that there are people like that. This morning I received a forwarded email. It's about the killings of baby seals in Canada or something. The person who prepared the powerpoint presentation believed that if each of us who received it forwards the message to as many people as possible, we can reach the higher authorities and they may be able to do something about it. The question is, if you are that serious about changing something, why don't you go to some animal authorities? You may get a more straight forward answer there.

All in all, I think blogs are just good for us to vent our emotions through assembling sentences, and taking our minds off things for awhile. At the end of the day, nothing is changed because you posted in your blog. Life just suck that way.

Spoilt

Yesterday I received a call from my boss. The boss from my part time job. He told me to find someone for this weekend, preferably a female, to work for four hours both on Saturday and on Sunday. The pay is pretty good, $8 per hour, and the job scope is pretty okay. I mean, if I were available for work, I would definitely go for it. (By the way, the reason why I am not available for work is that I am already working this weekend) It is really that attractive.

So I got down to work and went through my phone list. Being the good friend that I am, I called my closest girlfriends first, to ask them if they are interested. The first one said, "I can't, I've got something on." The second one said, "It's a good deal, but no, I want to go out with my boyfriend." The third said, "No, I can't, I've got an appointment." Everyone is not willing to give up whatever they have to be doing, which I believe to be some leisurely activities, for a job that pays $8 per hour! And the thing is you only have to work for four hours, which means to say you would have the rest of the day free! Is that not good enough?

After having tried and failed asking people who do not need jobs, I turn my attention to people who have called me previously to ask me if I have any work for them to do. I called another three. The first one said,"I've already found a job." The second one said,"No I can't, I've got something on." The third said,"It's very good money, but I've got to do something really important." Look, if you are not interested in working, don't call me to ask me for work! I was beginning to wonder if I would ever be able to find someone for the job. I figured I would look very not-resourceful if I return with a negative answer. So I went through my phone book again and call up everyone who is willing to wear a skirt, but still to no avail.

Then I thought of my sister. She is the kind that would rather watch TV than study when she is at home. I told her about the job and guess what she said? She said, "I can't, my exams are coming soon, I have to study." This is actually a lie. However, in order to prevent myself from getting blamed if she flunks any subject, I let her go. The actual reason why she gave an excuse not to work was because she thinks the rates are too low. What a spoilt brat.

Finally I sought the help of my other half. He happened to be in the company of someone who fits the description. As I was told later, at the mention of a part time job, her face lit up. And at the mention of the attractive rate of $8 per hour, you can see the dollar signs in her eyes. And guess what? I got her the job. What makes her different from everyone else who rejected me?

Could it be that my friends are so spoilt that they refuse to give up their playtime for work on weekends? Or is it that they do not feel that the rates are good enough? I guess I would never figure it out.

My first Blog!!!

This is my first blog posting and I terribly excited by it. I always have not enough to do in the office and two of my friends suggested that I get my own blog so I would stop pestering them with emails. Good friends indeed... Anyway I think blogs are good ideas. Nobody writes a diary anymore nowadays..there are just too much paper to keep. Blogs are so much better.. I don't need a pen and some paper. All I need is a computer!!

Anyway my company just had a health screening session. I suspect it was free. Some kind of advertising strategy to get people to buy their full health screening packages that cost $200++. I had my blood pressure, BMI, body fat and urine tested. Everything is pretty normal, just that I have too low a blood pressure (that explains my giddiness), and my body fats is 32.7%!! that means I have 8.7% excess fat! I really need to eat less food now.. Oh, and I am eating too much protein.. that stresses my kidneys, so I better not drink so much milk! haha...

Oh, and my office stinks of pee now. Everyone (every inconsiderate one) threw their urine samples in the wastepaper baskets in the office. Can you imagine the stench of 40 people's urine? Yuck!
